Description:

The Assessor must meet NYS standards and deadlines.  Assessors must meet minimum qualification standards as set forth in the 20 NYCRR 8188, & 8188-2.2.  After certification, assessors must participate in a continuing education program and the completion of an approved Ethics component is required one year prior to or one year after reappointment to office.

 

The Assessor's office is responsible for the data collection of all properties within the Town of Schroeppel. All sales data is analyzed and reviewed to manage the equalization rate of the town. The Assessor's office doesn't levy taxes or set budgets this is done by the taxing jurisdictions. All exemptions are processed and reviewed each year.

We strictly adhere to the March 1st exemption deadline as State Legislated for ALL applications.

Hours of Operation:

The Assessor's Office is open Monday - Friday 7:00 A.M. - Noon.

 

The Assessor is in the office on Monday 1:00 P.M - 3:00 P.M

Tuesday 8:00 A.M - 10:00 A.M. and Friday's  8:00 A.M. - Noon.

 

Appointments can be made with the clerk for your convenience.

Grievance Information

 The Assessor is in the office Mondays 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Tuesdays 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and Fridays 8:00 AM to Noon. You can make an appointment for other times if that is more convenient as to your schedule. After May 1 and prior to Grievance day the assessor will have extra hours in the office. These hours are posted on this site. Prior to the tentative role of May 1 you may want to contact the assessor in person or by phone to discuss your assessment for the upcoming year. The assessment of your property should be equal to a fair market value. The assessment in the Town of Schroeppel is at a partial value that being 80%. The full market value can be calculated by dividing your assessed value by .80, Example assessed value of $90,000 divided by .80 equals a full market value of $112,500. The market value of your property should be based on local sales of similar properties in the last few years. Similar properties defined as square footage, location, building style, lot size. The assessor is available at any time during the year to review and discuss your assessment.  

The assessment of your property should be equal to a fairmarket value.   Please free to call or set up an appointment to discuss any questions that you may have.
